When it comes to slurry handling, reliability is critical. A single valve failure can lead to costly downtime, safety risks, and environmental exposure. That’s why our KGI Series Knife Gate Valve has become the trusted choice for mining and mineral processing operations worldwide.
Built to deliver long-term performance, the KGI stands apart from standard knife gate valves. Here’s a closer look at what makes it unique.
Why Choose the KGI Series Knife Gate Valve?
The KGI Series Knife Gate Valve design has been made to offer an effective solution to traditional knife gate valve issues. The patented KGI design delivers on three key areas:
- Less Maintenance
- Less Downtime
- Improved Reliability
and it achieves the above in some of the most abrasive, high-density slurry environments.
Unlike conventional knife gates that often struggle in these conditions, the KGI performs.
But how? Read the KGI features below to learn more!
The KGI Series Knife Gate Valve features:
Fully Enclosed Valve Body
The gate will shut off pipeline media whilst staying within the fully-enclosed body. Whereas the traditional knife gate valve design is “push-through” – the gate has to push-through the valve’s sleeves to close.
Benefit: By being fully-enclosed, the KGI will not discharge pipeline media when closing. This also means that the KGI’s knife can be thicker and that the KGI can be installed in different orientations.
Extra Thick Gate
As detailed in the feature above, the KGI provides an extra thick gate. Whereas a push-through knife gate valve’s gate has to be thin to close through its sleeves.
Benefit: The extra thick gate cuts through slurry with ease and doesn’t deform under pressure.
Install The KGI In Various Orientations
Unlike most knife gate valves, the KGI can perform in both horizontal and vertical positions, as well as upside down. The KGI’s fully-enclosed, self-cleaning design reduces risk of slurry accumulation. Slurry accumulates and hardens in the body of a traditional knife gate valve – jamming the gate. The jamming of the gate is why most knife gate valves have to be installed vertically.
Benefit: Installing a valve at a vertical is not always possible due to space constraints. Therefore, the KGI’s ability to operate in any orientation is a reliable solution.
Full Body Replaceable Liner
The KGI Series Knife Gate Valve performs for long periods without any maintenance. But, when the time comes for maintenance – the KGI makes this simple. The KGI’s design features a full body replaceable liner that isolates the body from slurry.
Benefit: Abrasive or acidic slurry is one of the most common causes of valve damage. By having a full body liner, the KGI’s body is completely protected from the pipeline media. This layer of protection ensures that the KGI Knife Gate Valve is never at risk of damage via slurry. And with the liner being replaceable – maintenance is made easy.
Integrated Seats
With Integrated seats, the KGI ensures zero leakage during operation. The zero leakage sealing design ensures that regardless of which side pressure comes from – the gate can remain sealed.
Benefit: The knife gate valve can fulfill its intended purpose of stopping the flow of slurry.
Environments Where the KGI Excels
The KGI Series Knife Gate Valve is globally proven for various applications. Typical applications include:
- Iron ore and mineral processing plants – Handles dense tailings and abrasive slurries.
- Coal preparation plants – Withstands fine coal and refuse slurry.
- Gold and copper operations – Performs in corrosive, scaling, or high-solid environments.
- Lead and Zinc
- Nickel and Cobalt
- Lithium

KGI In Action: A Success Story
(Cyclone Valves On An Iron Ore Processing Plant):
An iron ore plant ran into big problems with the valves on its cyclones. The push-through valves kept failing early. The client experienced production losses, costly shutdowns, and constant maintenance. Each failure also spilled slurry into the area, damaging equipment, creating safety risks, and leaving the site dirty.
The KGI Series valves were installed on the cyclones where other valves failed fastest.
After almost three years of nonstop use with no maintenance, the KGI Series knife gate valve proved itself as the plant’s solution. It lasted more than twice as long as other valves. It removed unplanned maintenance and boosted reliability. The valve also saved time, kept the area clean, and lowered costs. Most importantly, it made the site safer for workers.
THE RESULT
200%+
The KGI outlasted existing valves on site by over 200%.
250+
Over 250 KGI Series Knife Gate Valves rolled out across the plant to date.
